What's the point of your VM?

Unless you all have rows of towers sitting on your desk, chances are you're all using virtual machine software, be it VMware, Microsoft Virtual PC, VirtualBox or something else. What I'd like to know is why do you have virtual machines? Are you interested in the peculiar workings of Windows 3.1? Do you feel nostalgic for the Channel Bar in Windows 98? Or are you planning on sitting in front of your screen with a stopwatch to time how long it takes until Windows Me bluescreens?

For me, it's a mix. My Windows 98 and Me VMs are for nostalgic purposes, and as such run some of the software I remember from when I was growing up. My DOS 6, 3.1, Chicago, 95, Memphis and Whistler VMs are to satisfy my curiosity for the older and rarer Windows, and my Windows 2000 VM is for when 98 and Me decide they don't want to play nicely anymore.

Not to mention the strange looks I get from my friends when they see me happily hammering away at the DOS prompt or tinkering with Whistler, not realising that it's just virtual.

So everyone, why do you virtualise your OSes?
