I use Mac OS X as my main OS although i use XP on my laptop not though choice but because i cant afford Windows 7 and/or another laptop. I will use it until the end of support and if i haven't got another laptop by then (Unlikely) i will run Linux on it. It really IRKS me to see people using a dead OS because of my Mac mindset. I live in a Rural town and i am planning on getting every business in the town to upgrade from XP.If you would prefer not to use Windows XP, then you could do what I did, which was to either run the latest pre-release builds of Windows 7 or Windows 8 that are available here, run an Evaluation version in place of the full RTM version, or even run one of the Windows 8.1 builds that are currently being released at the moment.
You might think that I'm weird (or "mad", as hounsell jokingly said about LoneCrusader), but that's exactly how I installed Windows Vista, Windows 7, and even Windows 8, just to be able to save money (though I did purchase a real copy of Windows 8 eventually, but it unfortunately doesn't have the Pro Pack).
And, at the moment, I'm posting this from Windows 8.1!
