They're not going to change the world.
Not anytime soon, at least.
Range of materials that can be used and time and cost per unit printed are huge blocks for this technology.
Of course 3D printing is awesome for prototyping, but well... this is no news, we've known it since last 10 years.
Manufacturing businesses already have more or less automated machines for production, and they would migrate to 3D printing too if they could get any advantage.
Home users will probably have some benefit from 3D printers, but non in a way that can harm big firms.
I mean, there would be a lot of things you could do with your printer at home, but you would probably get the same object for less money if you bought it.
Of course if your object is unique / not produced in large scale 3D printers come in useful...
This may vary as technology improves, but at this time I can't see any big deal with 3D printing...
