There was tons of software for Windows 3.1, some of which was quite good. Lotus had a few really good programs including the Ami Pro word processor (which combined frame-based layout with powerful typographic controls for something that was almost like a DTP/word processing hybrid) and the Improv spreadsheet (which had tons of advanced features that never caught on or became available in "mainstream" spreadsheets). Aldus released good versions of their software in the Windows 3.1 timeframe (Intellidraw and Persuasion are the Windows standouts, but the Windows versions of Pagemaker are pretty decent as well) There was also a program I loved as a kid called Adobe TypeAlign which was almost like a standalone version of the WordArt tool from MS Word, but had better effects and worked with any program. Adobe Type Manager, was of course, neccesary as well since early versions of Windows (pre Winedows 2000) lacked PostScript font support without it.
