I have this Windows XP PC (Dell Dimension 4300) that I've been trying to hookup to my Dell XPS 200. The Dell XPS gets wireless internet. I am trying to hook up the Dimension to the XPS via LAN to get internet from sharing, (the XPS is running 8 by the way) but whenever I plug a cable into the XP PC nothing (no network or PC) comes up on the Network Center. I've tried two network/Ethernet cards, and they had the drivers installed and the hardware was located in the device manager. One thing I did notice is that the lights didn't come on (on the Dimension). I then took the end of the cable plugged into the Dimension and plugged it into my laptop and it worked. I don't know if it's some issue Windows XP has with Windows 8 PC's or what. I never had a problem like this before.
